Heidi Watney was born May 19th, 1981. She is a famous American sportscaster. She earned her degree from the University of San Diego and was an sportscaster for several stations that include Time Warner Cable SportsNet, New England Sports Network in Boston, Time Warner Cable SportsNet Los Angeles, and two stations here in Fresno. Watney attended Clovis West High School in Fresno and participated in gymnastics, hurdles, diving and cheerleading. She was an National Merit Scholar, and she was accepted into the University of San Diego as an academic scholarship. She completed her degree in 2003 with honors. [2] Watney has participated in the Miss California USA pageant, where she was the first winner in 2002. Watney is the sister of professional golfer Nick Watney. [7] Author Andy Weir stated he used Watney's surname for the character "Mark Watney" in his 2011 science fiction novel The Martian after hearing her name on the Red Sox game broadcast.
